Reduced-Speed Running Resumes Following New Forest Trackside Fire

South Western Railway warns knock-on delays could last through the day.

Overview

  • Trains began moving again at reduced speed after firefighters put out a trackside blaze near Beaulieu Road on Saturday.
  • South Western Railway said the fire has been extinguished and trains can pass the site on the line toward Southampton at a slower pace.
  • Hampshire Fire and Rescue said on-call crews from Beaulieu and Lyndhurst were alerted shortly after 1pm and used a hose reel to douse burning rubber matting by the track.
  • SWR reported cancellations, revisions, and delays that grew to as long as 120 minutes on the Weymouth–Waterloo route, with disruption expected for the rest of the day.
  • Passengers were advised to speak to staff or use station help points, as slower speeds and earlier stoppages are likely to cause missed connections through Brockenhurst and beyond.
