Overview
- Trevor Story, who went on the injured list Saturday with a sports hernia, was replaced on the roster by utility man Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.
- Story said the issue dates to spring training and he is seeking more opinions on whether to have surgery, which he estimated could require a 6–10 week recovery if he opts for it.
- Interim manager Chad Tracy has started Andruw Monasterio at shortstop and said a move of Marcelo Mayer back to his natural position will depend on how long Story is out, with Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Sogard also in the mix.
- The veteran shortstop has struggled this season with a .206/.244/.303 line, a .547 OPS, six errors, and some of MLB’s worst chase and strikeout rates among qualifiers.
- The injury comes as Boston sits 18–26 and last in the AL East, with Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet also on the IL, adding urgency to decisions about the team’s infield alignment.
