Reconstruction of Mexico State’s Periférico Norte Reaches 90% After Three Months

Timed for the dry season, the rebuild targets longer-lasting pavement to improve safety for 204,000 daily drivers.

Overview

  • The state roads agency said Sunday the 108-kilometer rebuild from the old Toreo de Cuatro Caminos to the Tepotzotlán toll plaza is 90% complete after three months of work.
  • Crews have worked in four zones at once with specialized machines to replace the road base, lay new asphalt, and refresh lane markings.
  • The State of Mexico advanced the project under its 2026 public works program after more than 25 years without major upkeep, with funding of more than 1,200 million pesos.
  • Officials scheduled paving for the dry season to improve quality, and they expect 8 to 10 years of pavement life if maintenance continues.
  • The overhaul also upgrades lights, improves pedestrian bridges, maintains green areas, and clears drainage along the corridor.
