Reagan National to Suspend Flights July 3–4 for America 250

MWAA says the closures clear airspace for downtown flyovers, large fireworks and parachute demonstrations.

Overview

  • The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said Tuesday that DCA will have multi-hour suspensions in the early afternoon on July 3 and no scheduled flights after noon on July 4, with terminal services running at reduced capacity until operations resume on July 5.
  • The closures are meant to clear the airspace over the National Mall for America 250 aerial events, including military flyovers, fireworks and parachute demonstrations that must have nearby airspace empty to operate safely.
  • MWAA and airlines are already adjusting schedules to avoid the planned windows, and officials warned that air-traffic-control holds or FAA-issued ground stops and weather could cause additional delays or last‑minute changes.
  • Passengers are urged to check flight status with their carriers, expect limited terminal services and very restricted non‑airline parking, and to consider using Washington Dulles (IAD) or Baltimore/Washington (BWI) as alternatives on affected days.
  • Other planned airspace-restricted dates this summer include June 24–25, June 28, July 10 and Aug. 22–23, and AAA projects record holiday travel volumes that could amplify passenger impacts during the holiday period.
