RCMP Probes Theft From South Island Ravens, Disrupting Play for Inclusive Hockey Team

The volunteer-run club is seeking donated replacements to get players back on the ice.

Overview

  • West Shore RCMP say the gear was taken from a storage room at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre in Colwood sometime between Sept. 28 and Oct. 19.
  • Stolen items include 10 pairs of ice skates, 10 team jackets, two sets of goalie equipment and two pairs of goalie skates, valued at about $3,500.
  • Investigators believe the equipment may have been removed gradually over several weeks rather than in a single incident.
  • Police report no suspects or tips to date and ask anyone with information to call 250-474-2264 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
  • General manager Gus Ascroft says the loss is heartbreaking for families and the team is seeking used gear, with a left-handed goalie making replacement needs more specialized.
