Overview
- Police named Jesse Van Rootselaar, 18, as the lone suspect, found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot at the school.
- RCMP said the rampage began at a residence, where Van Rootselaar’s mother and 11-year-old half-brother were killed, before continuing at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
- Six people were killed at the school, including a 39-year-old teacher and five students aged 12 to 13, with total fatalities corrected to eight and roughly 25 to 28 others injured.
- Investigators recovered a long gun and a modified pistol and are examining how the suspect obtained weapons following earlier police visits over mental-health concerns and a prior gun seizure and return.
- Authorities reported no additional suspects or ongoing threat as vigils were held and national leaders, including the prime minister, offered condolences.
