RBI Holiday Update: Ranchi Banks Shut Feb. 23 for Elections, Nationwide Closure on Feb. 28

RBI-notified holidays pause over-the-counter services, with digital banking remaining available under the state-wise calendar issued via the Negotiable Instruments Act.

  • Banks in Ranchi, Jharkhand, will be closed on Monday, February 23, for the Municipal (General) Election 2026, per the RBI notification.
  • Branches across India will be closed on Saturday, February 28, for the fourth Saturday, followed by the regular Sunday closure on March 1.
  • Banks operated normally on Saturday, February 21, as it was the third Saturday under RBI rules on weekly scheduling.
  • Mid-February saw state-specific closures already observed for Losar in Sikkim (Feb 18), Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti in Maharashtra (Feb 19), and Statehood Day in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram (Feb 20).
  • During RBI-notified holidays, customers can use ATMs, UPI, and internet or mobile banking, while cheque clearing and in-person transactions are unavailable.
