Overview
- Tampa Bay transferred starter Ryan Pepiot to the 60-day injured list for right hip inflammation on Tuesday, then used the open 40-man spot to sign former Dodger Michael Grove to a major-league contract and place him on the 15-day IL.
- Manager Kevin Cash said a hip injection this week will delay Pepiot roughly six weeks, setting May 24 as his earliest activation date under the 60-day rules.
- Cash added that Grove is about three weeks from facing live hitters as he completes rehab from right labrum surgery performed in March 2025.
- Pepiot, who posted a 3.86 ERA over 31 starts in 2025, will shut down for several days and then ramp up with a minor-league rehab assignment before he can start for the Rays.
- Grove, 29, last pitched in the majors in 2024 and owns a career ERA above 5.00 with the Dodgers, making his signing a low-cost play by a club known for developing pitchers.
