Raspberry Pi Raises Prices on LPDDR4 Boards, Launches 3GB Pi 4 for $83.75

AI data centers have driven LPDDR4 prices sky high to force temporary hikes that squeeze hobbyists.

Overview

  • Raspberry Pi, which announced the changes Wednesday, raised prices across many LPDDR4 models with increases ranging from $11.25 to $150.
  • The company cited a seven-fold jump over the past year in LPDDR4 costs and set examples including a $25 increase for 4GB boards, $50 for 8GB, and $100 for the 16GB Pi 5.
  • A new Raspberry Pi 4 with 3GB of RAM is on sale now at $83.75 through Approved Resellers to give buyers a lower-memory option.
  • Prices stay unchanged for 1GB and 2GB versions of the Pi 4 and Pi 5 and for older LPDDR2-based boards such as the Zero and 3-series, which Raspberry Pi says it has in stock.
  • Raspberry Pi says the hikes are temporary and follow rounds in December and February, as industry reports link the RAM squeeze to AI data centers and warn it could put single-board computing out of reach for many users.
