Overview
- A group of fishermen led by Captain Blair Wiggins recorded the shark as it swam near their vessel off Florida’s Space Coast.
- The animal, estimated at about 15 feet long, circled the boat for roughly 20 minutes about five miles east of the port.
- Wiggins described the shark as “a monster” and said he could not put his arms halfway around its body.
- Wiggins alerted researchers, who have no confirmed tag on this individual and therefore no tracking data.
- Florida Tech’s Dr. Toby Daly-Engel said the encounter matches seasonal southward movement, with more sightings possible and low risk to swimmers because great whites typically remain offshore.
