Raquel Lee Sues Disney, Alleges Repeated Rape by On-Set Employee

The negligence complaint says the company failed to protect her and is seeking damages under expanded California rules for childhood sexual-abuse claims.

Overview

  • The complaint, filed Friday, Aug. 21 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, accuses an unnamed on-set, middle-aged male Disney employee of grooming, pressuring her to drink and repeatedly raping her when she was 14 during the 2001 production of The Poof Point.
  • Lee’s lawyers, led by Doug Wigdor and Jane Kim, say the alleged abuse occurred in hotel rooms, on a flight and on set where other adults could allegedly see or hear misconduct but did not intervene.
  • The suit frames Disney’s role as negligent, saying executives blamed Lee’s changed behavior, canceled a subsequent role and failed to investigate or protect child cast members.
  • Deadline and other reporting say Lee previously reached a confidential settlement in 2015 and that her current team approached Disney in June seeking a resolution before filing the new suit.
  • Legal experts and the filing point to California law changes that have broadened civil windows for childhood sexual-abuse survivors, enabling Lee to file now and seek damages for alleged concealment by the company.
