Ramones Launch Yearlong 50th-Anniversary Program for Debut Album

The push aims to bring new listeners to a record that shaped punk rock.

  • The Ramones and Rhino began a yearlong celebration Thursday, partnering with The Punk Foundation, Linda Ramone and Ramones Productions Inc. to honor the band’s 1976 debut.
  • The only authorized Ramones exhibition opens July 4 at The Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas, featuring performances, artist talks, interactive tours and member events.
  • Newly remastered and upscaled official videos are live on the band’s YouTube channel, including “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “Rock N Roll High School,” “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker” and “Psycho Therapy.”
  • Rhino and the estate plan physical reissues and tribute performances through 2026, with more releases to be announced over the year.
  • The debut LP was cut in about a week for roughly $6,000, peaked at No. 111, and later became a touchstone with “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Beat on the Brat” and “Judy Is a Punk.”
