- The Presidency confirmed the appointment on 22 January, with a single, non-renewable seven-year term.

- The Public Protector, a Chapter 9 institution, investigates maladministration and can issue legally binding remedial action, and Justice Deputy Minister Andries Nel publicly welcomed the appointment.
