Ram Unveils 3/4-Ton, Pursuit-Rated 2500 for Emergency Fleets

Independent police tests highlight pursuit performance trade-offs.

Overview

  • Ram introduced the 2027 Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle, billed as the first pursuit-capable three-quarter-ton pickup for law enforcement, fire, and rescue use.
  • The truck runs a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 rated at 405 hp and 429 lb-ft with an eight-speed automatic and 4WD, and it is geared with a 4.10 rear axle for quicker launches.
  • Michigan State Police testing recorded a 170.13-foot average stop from 60 mph and a 1:52.17 average lap at Grattan Raceway, making it slower to stop and corner than Ford’s F-150 Police Responder and Chevy’s Silverado PPV.
  • Top speed is electronically limited to 103 mph and 0–60 mph averaged 8.41 seconds, while fuel economy was estimated at 16 mpg combined and the ergonomics score was 6.78 out of 10.
  • Upfitting features include auxiliary switches, a Vehicle System Interface Module, dedicated wiring, vinyl flooring and seats, 18-inch steel wheels, a transfer case skid plate, coil-spring rear suspension, and dual alternators; fleet availability is slated for the second half of 2026 with pricing still unannounced.
