Rajpal Yadav Surrenders at Tihar After Delhi High Court Rejects Extension in Cheque-Bounce Case

The court cited repeated breaches of undertakings in a long-running repayment dispute and said there was no ground for further leniency.

Overview

  • Yadav presented himself to Tihar Jail authorities at around 4:00 pm on Thursday after the High Court ordered immediate surrender.
  • Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma declined to extend the deadline set for February 4 and said the court would not create special circumstances based on the actor’s background.
  • The bench noted prior deposits, including two demand drafts of ₹75 lakh filed in October 2025, while recording that about ₹9 crore remains payable.
  • Before surrendering, Yadav’s counsel said he had arranged ₹50 lakh and offered a ₹25 lakh cheque, but the court refused to reconsider the surrender order.
  • The High Court directed that amounts already deposited with the Registrar General be released to complainant M/s Murali Projects, recalling that convictions were entered in 2018 and upheld in 2019, with a conditional suspension granted in 2024.
