Overview
- The Delhi-bound Rajdhani’s B-1 AC coach caught fire around 5:15 am Sunday between Vikramgarh Alot and Lunirichha in Ratlam, and all 68 people in the coach were evacuated within about 15 minutes.
- Railway staff cut power to the overhead electric lines, detached the burning B-1 coach and the adjoining luggage–guard van, and firefighters brought the blaze under control.
- Services on the Delhi–Mumbai route were held for several hours, with multiple trains regulated, before the Rajdhani moved on with a diesel engine and teams repaired damaged overhead equipment.
- West Central Railway set up a High Administrative Grade probe that includes experts from coach maker ICF and standards body RDSO, and a forensic team is inspecting the burnt coaches as officials say the cause remains unconfirmed.
- Passengers were shifted to other coaches and offered Rs 5,000 in initial relief at Kota, while a separate repair van heading to the site overturned after a cow entered the road and injured five railway employees.
