Overview
- Police say a joint ATS and Hanumangarh operation, conducted Friday in Bhadra, shut an unauthorized Aadhaar centre and led to the arrest of Kuldeep Sharma.
- According to officials, the centre used other operators’ login IDs to issue Aadhaar cards by spoofing biometrics with rubber fingerprint molds and printed iris images.
- Investigators also found forged signatures on enrolment receipts, and they seized hundreds of receipts along with a laptop, printer, iris and fingerprint scanners, a GPS device, a camera, and a mobile phone.
- A case is registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, the accused is under interrogation, and forensic analysis of the electronics is underway.
- Officials warn such forged IDs can be used to get fake SIM cards and open bank accounts for cybercrime, and the probe now seeks to identify beneficiaries and any interstate network.
