Rain Cools Punjab as IMD Flags Yellow Alert for March 19–20

Another rain spell later this week is expected under the influence of a western disturbance.

Overview

  • Light to moderate showers were recorded across Punjab, including 14 mm in Pathankot and 9.5 mm in Rupnagar, with rainfall also reported in Hoshiarpur and Amritsar.
  • Chandigarh logged 1.6 mm of rain and the minimum temperature dropped to 12.3°C, the lowest since February 24 and about 1°C below normal.
  • Ludhiana’s minimum fell by 5.3°C to 11.5°C after Sunday’s weather change, reversing the early‑March warmth.
  • The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Ludhiana for March 19–20 with a forecast of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
  • Forecasters cite a western disturbance for the unsettled pattern, with another spell around Friday expected, and advisories urge farmers to pause field work and shelter livestock during gusty conditions.
