Railways Deactivates 3.03 Crore Fake IDs, Flags 2.7 Crore More as Aadhaar OTP Expands

Railways credits tighter identity checks to wider access to genuine Tatkal bookings.

Overview

  • After a review with senior officials, the ministry said 3.03 crore fake user accounts have been removed and 2.7 crore more are suspended or marked for suspension.
  • Aadhaar one-time password verification now operates for online Tatkal bookings in 322 trains and at reservation counters for 211 trains as of December 4.
  • Officials report the confirmed Tatkal booking window has lengthened in about 65% of those 322 trains and improved in roughly 95% of 96 popular services.
  • Anti-bot tools, including AKAMAI, are filtering automated attempts while suspicious PNRs are being reported to the National Cyber Crime Portal.
  • The reservation system sits in an ISO 27001–certified data centre with layered defenses, regular CERT-In audits, and continuous monitoring by CERT-In and NCIIPC, supported by RailTel’s threat-intelligence services.
