Railways Clears Final Location Surveys for Three New West Bengal Rail Lines

The approvals move the projects into formal surveys, with construction contingent on future reports and funding.

Overview

  • Eastern Railway said surveys have been sanctioned for SiuriNala (73 km), Arambagh–Khanakul (27 km) and RasulpurJangalpara (78 km), totaling 178 km.
  • The SiuriNala proposal would link Birbhum’s Siuri to Nala in Jharkhand via Rajnagar and Bakreswar Dham, improving inter-state access and supporting pilgrimage and tourism.
  • The Arambagh–Khanakul plan targets a corridor now reliant on slow, congested road travel and serves Khanakul, known as the birthplace of Raja Rammohan Roy.
  • The RasulpurJangalpara survey includes a bypass to eliminate engine reversal, a rail-over-rail bridge connecting the Howrah–Barddhaman chord with the Masagram–Bankura line, upgrading Mathnashipur Halt to a block station and a new Mathnashipur–Jangalpara link.
  • Officials describe the surveys as the first formal step, with detailed project reports, clearances, budget decisions and timelines still pending, and the RasulpurJangalpara link envisioned to offer an alternative route for passenger and light freight.
