Raigad PWD Junior Engineer Held in Rs 2.5 Lakh Bribe Trap

The case signals stepped-up ACB action on local graft across Maharashtra.

Overview

  • ACB officers caught junior engineer Shraddha D Borhade accepting Rs 2.5 lakh at the PWD Murud office on Monday after a contractor reported a bribe demand tied to a withheld final bill.
  • Officials say she first sought Rs 3 lakh to clear the 2024 slab-drain work bill on the Murud–Ekdara–Rajapuri–Khokhri stretch, which was negotiated to Rs 2.5 lakh during verification.
  • An FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act was filed at Murud police station, and DySP Sarita Bhosale led the trap with panch witnesses under guidance from senior ACB officers.
  • In a separate probe, traffic officers Inspector Sagar Ingole and ASI Golar from the MBVV unit were booked after an ACB complaint over a Rs 15,000 demand from a woman constable, with the FIR registered Monday night.
  • Also on Tuesday, the ACB detained Beed constable Datta Nighul at his residence after a trap over an alleged payoff reduced from Rs 5,000 to Rs 2,000 for help in a tractor dispute.
