Overview
- On Tuesday 15 September 2026 Sterling pleaded guilty at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court to dangerous driving, possession of six nitrous oxide canisters for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.
- Prosecutors presented Crown Prosecution Service bodycam footage and multiple dashcam and witness accounts that they say show Sterling inhaling from a balloon and driving erratically on the M25, M3, A327 and Minley Road before a single-vehicle crash on 28 May.
- District Judge Kirsty Allman adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report, set a further hearing for 25 November 2026, imposed an interim driving disqualification and released Sterling on unconditional bail.
- Nitrous oxide was reclassified as a Class C drug in November 2023, making possession for wrongful inhalation a criminal offence and exposing Sterling to penalties that can include prison for the driving and drug offences.
