Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria Nears 45% With Most Votes Counted

Coalition talks now loom, with Bulgaria’s Russia policy in sharp focus.

Overview

  • Preliminary results, which the Central Election Commission reported Monday after counting 91.6% of ballots, put Progressive Bulgaria at about 44.6% of the vote.
  • Exit polls Sunday had pointed to a wide lead, showing Progressive Bulgaria at roughly 37.5–38.7% versus 14.8–16.2% for GERB–SDS.
  • In an earlier CEC snapshot with 78.24% of protocols processed, WCC–DB registered 13.65% and GERB–SDS 13.18%, while DPS had 5.85% and Revival 4.43%.
  • That same snapshot showed several parties below the entry threshold, including METCH at 3.28%, Velich at 3.18%, Sayavo at 3.05%, and BSP at 3.03%.
  • Rumen Radev has opposed sending arms to Ukraine and favors closer ties with Russia, a stance that could influence policy if his bloc must negotiate a governing deal after Sunday’s snap vote.
