Overview
- RACQ released new dashcam footage during National Road Safety Week showing drivers failing to move over or slow down around tow trucks.
- The motoring body logged 29 near-misses to its tow trucks from November 2025 to April 2026, which is more than triple the same period a year earlier and works out to more than one a week.
- The warning follows Monday’s fatal crash on the M1 at Loganholme, where a 32-year-old woman was struck by a Holden ute driven by an 18-year-old after she returned to her car.
- Queensland’s move-over law requires drivers to change lanes or slow down for stopped vehicles with flashing lights, with a $500 fine and three demerit points for breaking the rule.
- So far this year, 127 people have died on Queensland roads, about a 28 percent rise on last year, and authorities say the toll could exceed 330 in 2026 if current trends continue.
