Querétaro Airport Extends International Gains as Domestic Cargo Lifts Q1

New route expansions and a tourism pact aim to turn momentum into lasting demand from abroad.

  • International passengers at Querétaro’s airport reached 58,123 in March 2026, ranking the hub eighth nationwide and up 4.7% year over year, according to Mexico’s civil aviation authority.
  • The airport has posted six straight months of annual growth in that segment since October 2025, with 182,265 international travelers in the first quarter, a 12.5% increase that brought internationals to 31% of total traffic.
  • Total cargo in the first quarter rose 4.1% to 19,250.9 tonnes, placing Querétaro fourth nationwide with a 6.4% share of the country’s air freight market.
  • Domestic freight led the gains with 13,948.6 tonnes up 8.1% and the top share in Mexico at 15.8%, while international cargo fell 5% to 5,302.4 tonnes; March cargo hit 7,501.3 tonnes, the airport’s highest March since 2006.
  • Tourism officials signed a promotion deal with Conexstur at the Acapulco trade fair, while airlines set a second weekly QuerétaroMadrid flight in May and 11 new Volaris routes from June 1 to deepen international reach.
