- Florin (Florian) Stoian, 30, is in Queens custody and scheduled for arraignment Wednesday on charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, arson, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, criminal mischief, tampering with evidence and reckless driving.
- Police say Stoian struck 74-year-old DoorDash worker Be Tran on August 14, 2022, on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood, and the impact threw Tran about 164 feet, killing him at the scene.
- Investigators allege he abandoned his BMW and returned hours later to set it on fire on a nearby dead-end block, with the blaze damaging surrounding vehicles and homes.
- Detectives tracked his movements through Michigan, Canada, Ireland and the Netherlands before identifying him in Germany, where he served about three years for theft under the alias Slaco Razmias.
- Authorities say Interpol coordination and Germany’s handover enabled his return to New York to face the Queens case.
