Quebecor Q1 Profit Rises With ARPU Lift From Freedom Expansion

The results point to Freedom’s expansion driving growth under strict federal price rules.

Overview

  • Quebecor reported net income of $225.4 million and revenue of $1.40 billion for the quarter ended March 31, with adjusted earnings of 97 cents per share.
  • The company added 28,800 net mobile lines as Freedom grew, fewer than the 54,400 it added in the same period last year.
  • Monthly average revenue per user rose 1.4% to $35.19, which Desjardins said was the only gain among Canada’s four largest carriers.
  • Carriers said heavy deals from late 2025 carried into the new year, which pushed customer switching higher across the market and reduced rivals’ per‑user revenue.
  • Videotron must keep prices at least 20% below competitors for 10 years under federal conditions, and Quebecor says wireless prices have fallen 31.6% since March 2023 as CPI rose 7.8%.
