Quebec Woman Who Threw Boiling Water on Child Gets 27-Month Prison Sentence

The punishment reflects a joint Crown–defence recommendation following her guilty plea to aggravated assault.

Overview

  • Quebec court Judge Marc Antoine Carette imposed the sentence at the Longueuil courthouse.
  • The assault occurred on Oct. 2, 2024, when Stéphanie Borel opened her door and threw boiling water at a boy approaching to ring the bell during a ring-and-run prank.
  • The 10-year-old suffered second-degree burns to about four per cent of his body, including his face, chest and shoulder blade.
  • A publication ban protects the child's identity, and an agreed statement of facts says there is no evidence the attack was racially motivated.
  • Borel’s bail was revoked in October, and she has about 20 months remaining to serve on the sentence.
