Phones using the chips from Honor, Redmi, Oppo and Realme are slated for the second half of 2026.

Overview

  • Qualcomm, which announced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and 4 Gen 5 on Thursday at its Snapdragon for India event in New Delhi, positioned the pair for mid‑range and budget Android phones.
  • Both chips add Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI, which Qualcomm says cuts app‑launch times and stutter, with the 6 Gen 5 at 20% faster and 18% less stutter and the 4 Gen 5 at 43% faster and 25% less stutter versus prior models.
  • Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 features a 4nm design with four performance and four efficiency CPU cores, a GPU uplift of up to 21%, AI Night Vision, support for 200MP cameras, Wi‑Fi 7, and Release 17 5G with peak downloads around 2.8Gbps.
  • Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 targets entry phones with a 77% GPU jump, the first 90 FPS gaming in the 4‑series, Dual SIM Dual Active for 5G + 5G/4G, Wi‑Fi 5, and camera support up to 108MP.
  • Honor and Redmi plan to ship phones with the 6 Gen 5 and Oppo, Realme and Redmi plan to use the 4 Gen 5 later this year, and the performance gains are Qualcomm’s claims that will need independent testing in shipping devices.
