Qualcomm’s Reality Elite Chip and Xreal Aura Push Smart Glasses Toward Retail

The new XR chip promises much more on-device AI and Xreal has opened paid reservations for a lightweight, puck-tethered Android XR glasses system ahead of a fall launch.

Overview

  • Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon Reality Elite, which launched Tuesday, June 16, 2026, and the company says it delivers up to 48 TOPS of on-device AI and major generational gains over the XR2+ Gen 2.
  • Qualcomm quantified those gains as roughly 60% higher GPU, 30% faster CPU and 160% higher NPU performance, plus claims of up to 20% longer battery life and devices running up to 12°C cooler under sustained load.
  • Xreal rebranded Project Aura as Xreal Aura and opened reservations with a paid deposit and limited Founder Priority Pass while confirming a lightweight optical see-through glasses shell under 95 grams, a 70° field of view, and a separate compute puck that houses Reality Elite and the battery.
  • Xreal says Aura will run Google’s Android XR with Gemini access and early partners are building games, sports and productivity experiences for launch, but the final retail price remains undisclosed.
  • The split design trades on-head weight and cooler operation for a tethered puck and a cable, and the combination of Reality Elite, Android XR and Qualcomm’s START tools could accelerate developer momentum while leaving consumer adoption tied to price, social acceptance and app availability.
