Overview
- About 40 students left school for an anti-ICE walkout on Feb. 20 that escalated when officers tried to arrest a protester and borough Police Chief Scott McElree became physically involved with several teens.
- Prosecutors initially charged five students with aggravated assault and other counts; those juveniles spent nights in custody and were placed on house arrest, their lawyers said.
- On Monday, June 15, the Bucks County District Attorney withdrew the aggravated-assault felony counts after reviewing additional evidence, including bystander video, and offered diversionary programs to all five students.
- Each student agreed to a diversion plan that includes conditions such as community service or counseling and will lead to dismissal and expungement if completed.
- The DA's office is continuing an independent investigation into the Quakertown police response, has been collecting outside video and reports, and is coordinating voluntary interviews with the teenagers even though local bodies earlier declined formal discipline for McElree.
