QTS Ends $12 Billion DeForest Data Center Bid After Village Declares Plan Not Feasible

Alliant Energy will assist QTS in evaluating other Wisconsin and Iowa locations.

Overview

  • Village staff concluded the proposal was not feasible and urged the Village President to reject the annexation at the Feb. 3 board meeting.
  • QTS said it will not move forward in DeForest, stating that now is not the right time after months of discussions with residents and local leaders.
  • The plan depended on annexing about 1,600 acres from the neighboring Town of Vienna for a large two‑phase campus.
  • DeForest expects QTS to withdraw its comprehensive plan amendment and zoning applications, which would cancel the Feb. 9 public hearing; if not withdrawn, staff will recommend denial.
  • Alliant Energy said it will continue working with QTS as the company explores alternative sites in Wisconsin and Iowa.
