Qantas Unveils Great Barrier Reef Livery on New A321XLR Coral Sea

The paint scheme is a public campaign for reef restoration.

Overview

  • Qantas rolled out its seventh A321XLR, VH-OGG named Coral Sea, from AirbusHamburg paint shop on May 28, 2026 and plans for Qantas pilots to ferry the aircraft to Australia in June.
  • The fuselage features sea turtles, clownfish and coral in a design created with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to raise public awareness of the reef.
  • Qantas has pledged AUD $10 million over 10 years to a Reef Restoration Fund to support scientists, Traditional Owners and local tourism operators working on coral restoration.
  • The A321XLR gives Qantas roughly 3,000 kilometres more range than the Boeing 737-800, the carrier has 48 of the type on order, and Coral Sea is the seventh example to be delivered.
  • Qantas says the aircraft will first fly domestic services around Australia before appearing on longer regional international routes and the airline has scheduled its first international A321XLR service between Brisbane and Manila for October 2026.
