Puy du Fou España Admits Irregular Animal Burials, Fires Three Staff

The park says new controls will raise animal-welfare oversight.

Overview

  • An internal review found some animal-care staff buried dead animals inside the Toledo park from 2021 through July 2025 in breach of company rules.
  • The company suspended three implicated employees during the probe and later dismissed them after completing its process.
  • Puy du Fou says a Toledo local police inspection in October 2025, launched after an anonymous complaint, reported no evidence to confirm the accusations.
  • A widely shared photo said to show exhumations, the company says, actually depicted park firefighters clearing pruned branches and locating an old water pipe in October and November 2025.
  • In response, the park announced tighter oversight with stronger supervision protocols, a new Animal Welfare Committee, facility upgrades, and end-to-end traceability of each animal, noting some affected species were not yet required to be individually registered.
