Putin Orders FSB to Tighten Security After Moscow Station Blast

Putin framed the expansion as a counter to a Moscow station blast allegedly plotted online.

Overview

  • At an FSB board meeting, Putin directed stepped-up protection for senior Defence Ministry figures, the defence industry, state and municipal officials, education and social workers, plus opinion leaders, journalists and volunteers.
  • He cited an explosion at Moscow’s Savyolovsky railway station that destroyed a police vehicle, claiming the assailant was recruited online and detonated remotely while targeting Interior Ministry personnel.
  • Putin ordered the state border to be further fortified with higher readiness and better equipment for border authorities in coordination with the Defence Ministry, Rosgvardiya and the Interior Ministry.
  • He called for stronger anti-terror security for energy and transport infrastructure, crowded public places and other critical facilities, alongside enhanced counterintelligence and cyber defenses.
  • He warned that opponents seek provocations to undermine talks on Ukraine, mentioned information about possible attempts to sabotage the TurkStream and Blue Stream pipelines, and reiterated deterrent messaging on nuclear consequences.
