Push for Kevin Sinfield Knighthood Builds After 7-in-7 Charity Feat and Royal Backing

A three-year honours convention following his 2024 CBE is the main obstacle to any immediate knighthood.

Overview

  • Kevin Sinfield completed seven ultramarathons in seven days across the UK and Ireland, raising about £1.3 million and taking his total for motor neurone disease causes past £11 million.
  • The Prince of Wales publicly congratulated Sinfield and, according to Sinfield, also sent a personal text message of support.
  • More than 50,000 people have signed a petition urging a knighthood, with public figures including Piers Morgan, Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle and Lord John Mann calling for an exception to the rules.
  • Honours upgrades are generally not made within three years of a prior award, and Sinfield received a CBE in the 2024 New Year Honours list.
  • Sinfield says he is planning a final 7 in 7 challenge in 2026, starting in Hull, visiting all 12 English Super League clubs and finishing at Old Trafford on 3 October.
