Push for ‘Jax’s Law’ Wins Cross-Party Backing, With Draft Hoped For This Month

Following a Leinster House meeting, Aylward said Fine Gael TDs Emer Currie with Barry Ward will work on a draft bill.

Overview

  • The proposed law would recognise unborn babies who die in road collisions as separate victims within Ireland’s justice system.
  • Saoirse Aylward said she hopes a draft of the measure will be published by the end of March, noting no legislation has been introduced yet.
  • Aylward described her meeting with the two Fine Gael TDs as very productive and said support across parties frames the effort as a road-safety issue.
  • Her campaign follows the stillbirth of her son Jax after a crash; the driver, Yurii Dudek, received a six-month sentence in 2024 for careless driving causing serious bodily harm to Aylward.
  • Other bereaved families have joined the effort, including Colleen Langan, who cited the 2010 deaths of her aunt Róisín and baby Catherine, and she thanked PARC Road Safety Group founder Susan Gray for support.
