Overview
- Police from the Área de Investigación Criminal in Puno detained three young men in Paucarcolla who are suspected members of the group known as Los Gatilleros de Paucarcolla.
- Officers located the suspects after a victim helped them track a stolen cellphone by GPS and then implemented a Plan Cerco containment to intercept the perpetrators.
- Authorities say the suspects committed two armed robberies on the Puno–Juliaca road that included gunfire that damaged one vehicle and the theft of a Hyundai Grand I-10 along with cash and phones.
- Investigators recovered the stolen Hyundai, seized a Toyota Yaris allegedly used as a getaway car (plate X2S-229), a Taurus .38 revolver, multiple cellphones and cash, and turned the items over to authorities.
- The three detainees are under investigation by AREINCRI Puno for aggravated robbery, attempted homicide and weapons offenses and have been placed at the disposal of judicial authorities for further proceedings.
