Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Ludhiana ASI Red-Handed Taking Rs 14,000 Bribe

The VB says it used a trap to catch the officer and has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Overview

  • A father had filed a missing-person complaint after his about 22-year-old daughter did not return from Government ITI Ghumar Mandi and met Duty Officer ASI Hardeep Singh at Division No. 8 police station.
  • VB officials allege the ASI demanded Rs 20,000 to act on the report and took an initial Rs 6,000 before seeking the remaining Rs 14,000 for a copy of the FIR and further action.
  • The complainant refused to pay the balance and approached the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, which laid a trap based on his report.
  • The VB arrested ASI Hardeep Singh red-handed while he was accepting Rs 14,000 in the presence of two official witnesses and has taken him into custody for interrogation.
  • A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB police station in Ludhiana and investigators say departmental and legal follow-up is under way as the probe continues.
