Punjab Unveils Provincewide Overhaul of 188 Produce Markets With Digital Tracking and Cleanliness Reforms

Officials report restored amenities across all sites to reinforce an anti-fraud push.

Overview

  • Authorities say every incoming produce truck is now linked to the Safe City system under a new Tracking on Wheels program to log supply and demand.
  • Direct auctions and dedicated auction sheds have been enforced across markets to curb fraud and improve price transparency.
  • Infrastructure upgrades reported in all 188 sites include restored water filtration, hygienic toilets, operational streetlights, rebuilt drainage and covered manholes.
  • Six new markets have been approved in Pakpattan, Kasur, Sahiwal, Mian Channu, Sheikhupura and Mandi Bahauddin, and a dedicated supply chain is set to provide Murree produce at wholesale rates.
  • Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered Public Service Commission–based hiring for market secretaries, directed strict action against deceptive price magistrates, and transferred an assistant commissioner following a child’s death in Layyah.
