- Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann said the state will forward a panel of IPS officers to the UPSC for selection of a regular DGP, pledging to follow the rules.
- Punjab has asked the UPSC to allow the additional chief secretary (home) to sit on the empanelment committee in place of the outgoing DGP, who is a contender.
- Acting Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav has held the post since July 2022, exceeding the usual six-month acting window, with several seniors retired or on central deputation.
