Overview
- Following Sunday’s thunderstorm, winds of up to 60–70 kmph with heavy rain knocked out lines and cut power across Punjab.
- PSPCL counted nearly 1,200 poles, about 100 distribution transformers, and one 200 kV tower damaged, and it estimated losses at ₹8 crore.
- The utility said most supply is back, yet parts of Mohali and nearby towns such as Kharar and Zirakpur still lacked power 36–48 hours later.
- Residents in those areas reported broken poles, hanging wires, failed transformers, and wide voltage swings that ruined appliances and stopped water pumps.
- NRLDC data showed statewide electricity demand fell by about 3,000 MW after the rain, which eased load even as local repairs continued.
