Punjab Says 3 Million Served in Ramadan Aid Drive as Minister Accuses KP of Delay

Officials target four million beneficiaries, citing app-based cash transfers as evidence of rapid delivery.

Overview

  • Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said assistance has been transferred to three million people under the Nigehban program, with a goal to reach four million in the coming days.
  • Updated figures shared earlier this week listed 2,608,192 Nigehban cards received, 2,302,540 delivered, and 1,968,829 encashed, alongside 1,578,578 people served at Nigehban Ramazan Dastarkhwan sites.
  • Through the “Maryam Ko Batayein” app, the government disbursed Rs10,000 per person to 13,892 citizens, according to Bokhari.
  • Bokhari criticized the PTI-led KP government for not beginning distribution, saying it has only sought beneficiary lists and alleging a plan to channel Rs10 billion to party workers.
  • She added that senior KP figures Muzamil Aslam and Sohail Afridi appeared unaware of the package status, while praising Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s daily iftar efforts across Punjab.
