Punjab Reports 48% Drop in Road Deaths After Sadak Surakhya Force Launch

Officials attribute the decline to faster emergency response.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said fatalities have fallen 48% since the force began operating in February 2025.
  • The Sadak Surakhya Force comprises 1,597 newly recruited personnel with 144 fully equipped vehicles, according to the government.
  • Units patrol 4,200 kilometres of accident-prone highways and serve as a deterrent to traffic violations, the chief minister said.
  • Mann cited upgrades at hotspots, including the formerly “killer” Sirhind-Patiala stretch, alongside a broader 43,000-kilometre road-building program.
  • The initiative has returned accident victims’ valuables and drawn interest from other states after a mention in Mann Ki Baat, he added.
