Punjab Proposes Live Tracking for Driving Licences

Linking the Traffic Police’s licence database to Pakistan Post aims to show handover times and delivery locations to applicants, boosting oversight.

Overview

  • Authorities have proposed connecting the Driving License Information Management System to Pakistan Post so applicants can track when a printed card is handed to the courier and see its delivery location.
  • Punjab Information Technology Board has been asked to build the technical link but the integration remains under development with no public launch yet.
  • DLIMS currently shows only application progress and when a card enters printing, which leaves applicants uncertain once dispatch begins.
  • Officials have repeated the existing fees and penalties: an online learner licence costs Rs500 per category, the courier fee is Rs480, and motorcycle late-renewal fines range from Rs225 to Rs1,125 depending on delay length.
  • The tracking proposal comes alongside stepped-up enforcement of unlicensed and underage driving and stronger messaging to use official channels to avoid informal agents and delivery delays.
