Overview
- The State Special Operations Cell arrested Rahul Kumar of Amritsar and recovered an RDX-based IED concealed in a PVC pipe, with a case registered under the Explosive Substances Act, the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
- In a rural operation on February 8, police arrested Sukhmanpreet Singh and seized two hand grenades, with central agencies assisting and preliminary findings pointing to a cross-border supply route.
- A subsequent SSOC action led to the arrest of Shubham Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, from whom police recovered an IED in a metallic case with a remote control and a foreign-made pistol, with an FIR invoking UAPA and other laws.
- Police said the arrested operatives retrieved consignments from designated locations on Amritsar’s outskirts after contact with foreign-based handlers who had cultivated them since 2022 using small payments and encrypted messaging.
- DGP Gaurav Yadav said probes are underway to identify handlers, smuggling routes and intended targets, including a claim that one IED was meant for attacks in multiple states such as Punjab and Delhi.
