Punjab Police Bust BKI Cells, Seize RDX IED and Grenade Ahead of Republic Day

Police cite overseas BKI handlers behind the cells.

Overview

  • In Hoshiarpur, a joint police–counter intelligence operation arrested four suspects in Garhshankar and recovered an RDX-based IED of about 2.5 kg along with two pistols and live cartridges.
  • SSOC Amritsar detained BKI operative Sharanpreet Singh and seized a P86 hand grenade, a 9 mm Glock pistol, ammunition and 65 grams of methamphetamine, which police say thwarted a planned strike on a security site.
  • FIRs were filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, the Arms Act and NDPS provisions, and investigators are mapping funding channels, handlers and smuggling routes.
  • Punjab’s DGP said the modules were run by US-based BKI operatives, with asserted Pakistan ISI-backed links under probe.
  • In a separate move on Saturday, Counter Intelligence Amritsar arrested three men in an arms-smuggling case and seized three foreign-made pistols with 15 rounds as teams work to trace the supply chain and any cross-border connections.
