Punjab Police Break Up Cross-Border Smuggling Network in Amritsar as Separate Raid Seizes 25 Kg Heroin

Investigators focus on drone deliveries, money flows, network links.

Overview

  • Amritsar commissionerate police arrested five alleged operatives and recovered six pistols, 115 grams of heroin, and ₹11.90 lakh in suspected drug proceeds, according to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
  • The haul included two Austrian-made Glock 9mm pistols, a Turkish Zigana, two .32-bore and one .30-bore pistols, 10 live cartridges, and a Hyundai Creta used for smuggling.
  • Police said preliminary findings tie the group to a cross-border supply chain that used drones to drop arms and narcotics, and a case was registered under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act at the cantonment police station.
  • In a separate joint operation a day earlier, Amritsar rural police with the BSF seized 25 kg of heroin, two pistols, and 60 live rounds and arrested two residents of the Ghogha area, with an FIR registered and linkages under probe.
  • Barnala police also detained three suspects after a tip-off and recovered 500 grams of heroin, registering an NDPS case as investigators noted prior narcotics cases against at least one of the accused.
