Punjab Police Arrest Three and Seize 25 Kg of Heroin in Amritsar

Authorities say the haul points to a wider cross-border smuggling ring and investigations are under way to trace suppliers and local distributors.

Overview

  • Punjab Police Counter Intelligence teams intercepted three men near Dana Mandi in Gill village and seized a total of 25 kg of heroin, police announced after the operation.
  • The accused were identified as Bhupinder Singh of Jandaur, Ravi Kumar of Dasuya and Vishal Singh of Fatehpur, and officers recovered 8 kg from Vishal and 17 kg from Bhupinder and Ravi.
  • Police impounded the suspects' Hyundai Verna (registration PB10-GS-7779) and registered an FIR at the State Special Operation Cell under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
  • The 25 kg arrest follows a separate CI Amritsar operation the previous day that busted two smuggling networks, arrested three people and recovered 13 kg of heroin from a house raid and a vehicle search.
  • DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary inquiries indicate the groups acted on directions of an alleged cross-border smuggler and that investigators are tracing upstream suppliers and downstream distributors to dismantle the supply chain.
