Overview
- The provincial government inaugurated the Green Electric Bus Service in Layyah, Chiniot, Sialkot, Okara and Murree as the first phase of the rollout.
- Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz pledged to build the fleet to 5,000 electric buses within five years and said 1,500 more buses will be added during the current year.
- Officials set an initial induction target of 1,100 buses under the first phase and said 51 buses will run on 10 routes in the five newly covered districts.
- The government announced that senior citizens, people with disabilities, women and students will travel free on the e-buses, and that student welfare programs such as laptops, e-bikes, tablets and 50,000 scholarships will continue.
- Provincial briefings put the project at roughly Rs200 billion and said the scheme aims to widen modern transport access in remote districts, cut urban pollution and reduce travel costs for vulnerable groups.
